I decided to do a bit of research on Motion Design Graphics. This is a subject that I don’t have a lot of experience in but would like to learn more about and become more familiar with. Motion graphics have become a very important part of design and are found everywhere including commercials, websites, or even just a logo itself. I have used Adobe AfterEffects for classes before but not really delved into all that it can do yet. I found this 4 part video tutorial on an introduction to After Effects and found it to be very informative and helpful (I only posted the first 2 videos here):
I also came across this article that discusses what is needed to become a motion graphics designer, I discovered that the main software used is After Effects, Cinema 4D, Final Cut Pro, Flash, Photoshop and Premiere Pro. While I have experience with After Effects, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro, I have never used Cinema 4D which I know is also a popular software for 3D animations. I think since there are so many different ways to animate that it is best to focus on one software at a time. Currently, my main focus is on getting more comfortable working in After Effects. I think I like this software because I mainly want to focus my designs in 2D animation and (in my opinion) After Effects is geared more towards creating 2D animations. . I prefer the clean and stylized look of 2D to 3D which is just a personal preference, but also I consider my expertise more focused towards logo design, illustration, and typography. All of which, can be animated in After Effects!
Here is a short video I created about a principle of design (Emphasis) using After Effects. This project was simply to learn and is not meant to be especially artistic or special:
Also… I’m not sure where or how I originally discovered this motion graphics video, but it has been inspiration for me even before I had ever used After Effects. It is fittingly called, “Inspiration.” This video made me want to learn to animate in After Effects.
